A Merry Christmas SMS sent in December 1992 was sold as an NFT at an auction in Paris for €132,680. The proceeds will go to charity.

The first text message was sent on December 3, 1992 by British programmer Neil Papworth. The recipient was Richard Jarvis, who was then CEO of the British telecommunications company Vodafone.

"In 1992, I had no idea just how popular texting would become, and that this would give rise to emojis and messaging apps used by millions," Papworth was quoted as saying by the auctioneer. Now SMS in the form of an NFT token was sold at Paris-based auction Aguttes. The buyer of the non-fungible token was an unknown auction participant who paid for the purchase with ETH. In addition to the NFT itself, the winner of the auction will receive a digital frame with 3D animation with an SMS image.

According to Dapp statistics, trading volume on NFT marketplaces dropped significantly over the past 7 days. Thus, the trading volume on the most popular platform OpenSea dipped 38% to $390 million.

Nevertheless, according to Google Trends statistics, over the past week, the popularity of a query for the term NFT exceeded the corresponding indicator for the word cryptocurrency for the first time.
