LOT Polish Airlines introduced bitcoin payments on the website. Processing company remains unknown.

 The Polish carrier announced the news in a press-release.

“LOT is one of the first airlines in the world to introduce payments with Bitcoins. That is how the airline responds to the needs and expectations of the ever bigger new group of clients who use this online currency on a daily basis. Bitcoins are more and more popular, and the number of places where they can be used for payment in constantly on the rise. It is possible to pay for tickets in such a way on lot.com, as well as in the mobile version and via mobile app. Transactions are convenient and fully secure.”

The clients will see the bitcoin payment option after they choose date and time of their flight.

“Payment with Bitcoins is easy in execution, and equally secure as other payment methods. All transactions are handled by PSP – one of the most reputable and popular platforms handling payments with the online currency,” says LOT without naming the company in question.

According to LOT Sales and Distribution Executive Director, Jiri Marek, the company believes in the future of the digital currency.

“It‘s just the matter of time when payments with the online currency will become as popular as using credit cards today. We notice this potential, which is why we are one of the first airlines in the world to give its passengers the possibility of paying with Bitcoins as early as today.”

LOT is not the first national carrier in Europe to introduce bitcoin payments. As CoinFox reported earlier, in 2014 airBaltic and Lithuanian Air both adopted the digital currency.

In February 2015, the global payment processor UATP formed a partnership with Bitnet enabling more than 260 international airlines to switch on the bitcoin payment option. However, none of them has made the decision so far. This June, TAR became the first airline in the Americas to accept bitcoin.
