Bitcoin mining company reminds everyone about wrong judgements made by experts who predicted short life to such inventions as telephone, automobile, sound films and remote shopping.

“15 Times Experts Were Dead Wrong About Technology” is the name of a new advertisement campaign started by the bitcoin mining company Genesis Mining, says International Business Times.

Billboards, taxi ads and spinner signs in big American cities such as Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC are going to cite the most ridiculous expert statements of the past, with a question – “Are the experts always right?” Here are a few examples of these statements:

The ‘telephone’ has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication (1876).

The horse is there to stay but the automobile is only a novelty – a fad (1903).
Who the hell wants to hear actors talk? (1927).
Remote shopping, while entirely feasible, will flop (1966).

According to Marco Streng, CEO and co-founder of Genesis Mining, one of the main aims of the campaign is to show people “that experts aren't always right about technology.” It implies that bitcoin sceptics may also be wrong. Some of the advertisements directly promote bitcoin. For instance:

On May 22nd, 2010, two pizzas were purchased for 10,000 Bitcoins. Today, that would be worth $2.4 Million.

All these banners carry a bitcoin logo and the logo of Genesis Mining. The company, founded in 2013 by the mathematician Marco Streng and entrepreneur Jakov Dolic, operates in Iceland, where it can use cheap and renewable electricity from geothermal and hydro power plants. It invites individuals to join its mining pool.

As CoinFox reported earlier, in August Genesis Mining created a website allowing users to look into their bitcoin mine in Iceland.
