CEOs of a number of Samsung subsidiary companies have been given a lecture on the blockchain. Not that Samsung Group as a whole adopts the technology anytime soon, but some of its members may.

The presentation was led by Professor Roh Sang-kyu of Seoul National University, says Korea Times. Blockchains were characterised as a fintech innovation that can change the world.

Earlier, the local media reported in that Samsung Group plans to establish a blockchain system among its subsidiaries already in October 2016. The spokesman for Samsung Group, however, did not confirm the rumours: according to him, “the lecture was aimed at informing group executives of the basic concepts of the technology.”

Nevertheless, some of Samsung Group subsidiaries are ready to adopt distributed ledger in the near future. One of them is Samsung SDS, a provider of information technology services. A month ago, it invested in Korean blockchain startup Blocko. The spokesperson for Samsung SDS said the company sees blockchain technology as “promising” and plans to “seek opportunities” to use it in various sectors.
