Bitcoin price has surpassed $1,230. Within a week, the cryptocurrency added over $100 and set a new price record.
The Chinese trading platform OKCoin now has the highest exchange rate. For about an hour, the cryptocurrency was traded there for the price exceeding $1,235. On most other exchange platforms, bitcoin price is ranging from $1,220 to $1,230.
The total market capitalisation of bitcoin is about to hit $20 billion. The total number of coins currently in the system is 16,192,675.
Over the last 24 hours, the bulk of trading has been done on Bitfinex. Its current world trade share amounts to 19.71% or 24,900 BTC. The Japanese exchange Bitflyer is the third best with a market share of 15.66% or 19,800 BTC. According to Bitcoinity, the second place in the rating belongs to the totality of all other exchanges worldwide not mentioned individually in the rating. Their market share is 18.61% or 23,500 BTC.
The weekly trading volume on LocalBitcoins US as of 25 February amounted to $7.902 million or 6,171 BTC, Coin Dance reports.
SimpleFX analytics suggests that in the near term, bitcoin exchange rate may drop back to $1,160 or even $1,140. The market is still influenced by the expectations of American investors awaiting the Securities and Exchange Commission’s decision concerning the bitcoin ETF of Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, due in March. If approved, the Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust would be the first crypto ETF licensed by a US regulatory body.
