An Indian payment processor, ePaisa integrated bitcoin enabling about 500 merchants in India to accept payments in bitcoin.

The service will be available at outlets in five cities in India with special focus on Mumbai and Delhi. The merchants will be able to convert bitcoin payments into local currency and receive them in their accounts. The ePaisa mobile Point of Sale application supports 32 languages including regional Indian languages, such as Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Tamil. The app works as a fully-fledged counter equivalent and accepts card payments on smartphones and tablets. The transactions can be made offline and then automatically synchronised when Internet connection is on. The ePaisa online selling service for merchants is also available. The fees start from 0.75% per transaction.

“So far, there has been no facility enabling smaller merchants to accept bitcoins in India. Only big retailers, especially from the US are accepting bitcoins," said Siddharth Arora, ePaisa's CEO.
