Investor and bitcoin advocate Stephen Cole asked Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky to integrate digital currency payments into their website.
The remarkable dialog took place on Twitter where Chesky invited his audience to share ideas about innovations they would like to see on the accommodation sharing platform:
If @Airbnb could launch anything in 2017, what would it be?— Brian Chesky (@bchesky) December 26, 2016
Stephen Cole answered the question straight away:
Cole noted that he prefers Expedia to Airbnb because the other platform does accept bitcoins. A number of users supported the idea and promised to switch to Airbnb if they offer bitcoin payments.
– said Chesky next day.
The discussion on Twitter was met with enthusiasm among bitcoiners, who eagerly welcomed the idea of Airbnb going bitcoin on Reddit.
Bitcoin adoption by Airbnb may become real quite soon. The company familiarised itself with the blockchain technology about a year ago when it hired specialists from the bitcoin micropayments processor ChangeCoin to develop blockchain services for a worldwide private housing platform. The company negotiated with several blockchain startups and finally chose ChangeCoin since it had already proven itself as a successful project featuring its own mobile application ChangeTip.
