The Ukrainian special services have claimed that cryptocurrencies are widely used to transfer money to the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk republics.

Apart from cryptocurrencies, the Security Service of Ukraine mentioned popular Russian remittance services such as Qiwi and Yandex.Money in a list of methods to make cross-border money transfers to Donbass.

"We revealed the main mechanisms of transferring money into the so-called Donetsk and Lugansk republics: thus, the main instruments are cryptocurrencies, sent to electronic wallets of unidentified representatives of so-called Donetsk and Lugansk republics, electronic payment systems, including those banned in Ukraine (Qiwi, Yandex), etc., and not declared to customs or improperly declared cash that is moved through the border," the Ukranian Security Services said in a statement.

Earlier, the Ukranian special services reported that they had found and liquidated a network of mining farms in the Ukranian cities of Kiev and Cherkassy. Cryptocurrencies, mined on those farms, were sent to the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk republics and used for the financial support of Internet portals with anti-Ukrainian propaganda. According to the chief military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios, the total cost of equipment seized during the operation was about $4 million.
