As the main client of the Ethereum network, Geth now optimizes transactions in such a way that their processing speed has increased by 40%, although it does not speed up blocks mining directly.

Geth is spotted in handling blocks in Ethereum blockchain 40% faster than other clients, Trustnode reports. It became possible due to an increased speed of processing blocks, although Geth does not influence on the time miners need to produce a block. It remained the same, fluctuating around 15 seconds.

The last Geth update optimizes the processing of "dirty" objects during block processing. It poses certain interest for miners and site operators, as they can potentially synchronize faster. This can also have wider consequences as it allows to reduce the number of lost blocks, and this in turn will increase the block size.

But will be possible to speak with confidence about possible advantages of Geth updates only after the peak load reaches about 1.4 million transactions.

The fact that Geth update can significantly speed up the Ethereum network demonstrates that the ecosystem work can be optimized right now, without waiting for global updates such as Casper, sharding and others.

The latest release of Geth also has another secondary function that may be of interest to dapps, called Clef, which is a kind of autonomous signature.

“It would manage you keys across multiple apps. Geth could use them, Metamask could use them, cpp-ethereum could use them,” Péter Szilágyi, an eth dev, says.
