RLabs, a non-profit organization providing solutions to address the social and economic challenges in South Africa launched a bitcoin crowdfunding platform for Early Childhood Development (ECD) projects.

A Cape Town-based organization, RLabs in partnership with Uusi created mToto (that means “child” in Swahili), a new initiative that aims to support the ECD and Education projects in marginalised communities in South Africa.

The mToto platform accepts bitcoin donations to four unlisted projects per month. Each project is available for 30 days, and after that period RLabs will convert the raised bitcoins into cash and resources providing support for children in need.

Marlon Parker, RLabs founder told Disrupt Africa that they wanted to attract the bitcoin community's attention to children development projects. He also explained the aims of mToto:

“Many ECD centres and projects don’t have funds to ensure a greater learning experience for the children as many of the parents of those kids are unemployed therefore unable to provide the required support. RLabs mToto want to address that challenge by leveraging the power of bitcoin, giving marginalised children and centres the opportunity to have an improved learning journey.”

Founded in 2008, RLabs supports innovative projects and start-ups targeting social change and reconstruction in 22 countries. It has already provided skills training, economic and social support services to more than 5 million people.

RLabs is another addition to the list of crowdfunding charity platforms that accept bitcoin donations. Coifox recently wrote about Code To Inspire, a non-profit organisation committed to teach Afghan women how to code and use bitcoin. In June 2015, it has launched a fundraising campaign to establish a programming centre in Herat.
