A crowdfunding campaign has started in São Tomé aimed to raise 10 Bitcoins for the launch of an anti-domestic violence project. The project is hoped to start on 10 December, the Human Rights Day.

The creators of the project, Kris Haamer and rapper Peagboom, gathered a team of like-minded persons from all over the world, including São Tomé, Brazil, Portugal, Estonia and Taiwan, to work on a musical video dedicated to the problem of domestic violence and the ways to overcome it.

The idea is to inspire abused women not to stay mute about their suffering, and to show them that even in the worst situations there is still a way out.

After the project is launched, the team plans to develop it into more social media projects, including TV and radio performances, and visit schools with talks about the problem of domestic violence.

The idea behind gathering donations in bitcoin digital currency instead of fiat reflects the hope to involve people from all over the world, to make the campaign global and to attract bitcoin enthusiasts' attention to the issue.

Bitcoiners have already shown their support to the initiative, with Xapo CEO Wences Casares donating 1BTC, followed by a series of smaller donations.
