Starting from today, the blockchain social network launches four-step restoration procedure for about 260 user accounts compromised during the cyberattack on 14 July.

According to the company blog post, users need to perform four steps to restore access to previously blocked accounts:

“Click the ‘Account Recovery’ link at the bottom of this update.

Enter your old Password.

Login via Facebook, Reddit, or provide your email address.

Enter your old Password again, and then provide your New Password twice.”

If you are logged via Facebook or Reddit, your account will be immediately restored. However, if you forgot the password that was used during the last 30 days, your account will be lost forever.

Steemit team is still trying to estimate the amounts of cryptocurrency stolen from particular accounts. The company promises to reimburse the funds to everyone affected by the hack. As Coinfox previously reported, Steemit also developed an account recovery system that works via trustees who will be able to confirm your identity on the blockchain.

According to the official announcement, as a result of the attack, unknown cyber criminals compromised about 260 accounts and stole nearly $85,000 worth of tokens.

Steemit is a social network based on the blockchain, which rewards its users with cryptocurrency for quality content.
