Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange has announced the beginning of the platform relaunch in a secure mode. The users can login to their accounts and check balances considering the distributed losses.
Bitfinex has restarted the platform but the cryptocurrency trading, deposit and withdrawal of cryptocurrency assets are not available yet. These services are promised to be enabled one of these days.
“Currently the site is available on a read-only basis as we continue to work towards enabling full functionality.”
To enter the accounts, the exchange users must reset their passwords. Those Bitfinex clients who used two-factor password-free authentication will need to register anew. All API keys have been annulled too. The creation of new API-keys will be available in two days.
Bitfinex clients can currently enter and check their accounts to consider the changes caused by the closing of open margin positions and distribution of losses among the users. Earlier, Bitfinex representative Zane Tackett informed that the generalised loss accounts for 36.067%.
In the balance report, the estimation of losses is done by means of BFX tokens, with the start price set at $1. It is planned to start trading the tokens in the following week.
“The trading of BFX tokens may be restricted for US customers,” the exchange notes. Tackett earlier emphasised that “the BFX tokens will remain outstanding until redeemed in full by Bitfinex or possibly exchanged – upon the creditor’s request and Bitfinex’s acceptance – for shares of iFinex Inc.”
Bitfinex says the services for withdrawal, deposit and exchange trading will be enabled first. The function of margins trading for all clients apart from US users will be relaunched the last thing. The exchange is still working to render the exact schedule of full functionality restoration.
On 2 August, BitFinex reported a massive hacker attack resulted in the loss of 119,756 BTC (around 0.75% of overall world bitcoin circulation). The exchange announced the suspension of all trading operations and turned to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
