Three Bitcoin Core programmers will offer four weeks of bitcoin training in New York City in September-October. The goal is to improve quantity and quality of bitcoin contributors.

According to the announcement, the Hacker Residency Program will start on 12 September and finish just before Scaling Bitcoin in Milan (8 October). The organisers invite established developers and offer “some limited stipends to defray the costs of travel/lodging.” The training will be focused on learning from doing.

The hosts are three Bitcoin Core developers, Matt Corallo (co-founder of Blockstream), Alex Morcos and Suhas Daftuar. The training programme is supposed to make it easier for IT people to start contributing to the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Speaking to Bitcoin Magazine, Corallo said:

“When you come into Bitcoin as a developer, you're gonna first suggest the same 100 changes everyone else did the first year. And it doesn't usually feel great to be constantly told your ideas are not useful — especially when you're communicating over text, and you don’t see that people are trying to help. You just see a bunch of people who keep telling you you're wrong.”

Most of the actual Bitcoin Core contributors joined the team between 2011 and 2013.
