Guardtime cybersecurity company has announced a new cooperation with the Estonian Information Systems Authority (RIA) to implement KSI blockchain and to ensure the integrity of governmental data records.

The KSI technology is an industrial-scale distributed ledger solution for network and data integrity created by over 100 cyberexperts to help organisations prevent data loss and verify digital assets.

The collaboration of the state body with the blockchain firm started in 2011 and has now been renewed with a new frame agreement. The blockchain startup will bring the technology of Keyless Signature Infrastructure to the country's eGovernment system. The KSI blockchain will be available through RIA platform to all government authorities so that it can be implemented throughout the public sector.

“Ensuring the integrity of information we process and store is critical to Estonia's eGovernance and way of life,” said Taimar Peterkop, Director General of Estonian Information Systems Authority.

“You cannot make mistakes, and solely relying on perimeter security and goodwill of the insiders would be inexcusably naive. We need independent integrity instrumentation, both for the data, as well as for our systems, and the blockchain technology has a lot to give here.”

Additionally, Guardtime will work with the Estonian eHealth Foundation to manage patients' records together by integrating the KSI into the database to avoid healthcare fraud and to provide transparency and auditability.

The Estonian state proves again to be open to new IT solutions. In February, a partnership has been announced between Nasdaq and Estonian government to introduce a blockchain-based e-voting service on the online platform e-Residency.
