Dr Craig Wright, an Australian entrepreneur and academic, has gained an overwhelming public attention these days after two separate investigations pointed at him as the man behind the alias Satoshi Nakamoto. Revealing articles were published both by Gizmodo and Wired.

One of the least known experts to join a panel discussion at Bitcoin Investor’s Conference this November via Skype, Dr Craig Wright made a few suspicious remarks, presenting himself as “a bit of everything” who had been involved with bitcoin for quite a long time:

“I have a Master’s in law… a Master’s in statistics, a couple doctorates… I’ve been involved with all this for a long time…  I try and stay, I keep my head down.”

Wired, which drove attention to this weird self-presentation, provided some evidence that Dr Wright could have created bitcoin, referring to his blog posts, leaked emails and general background. The investigators point out that companies founded by Dr Craig Wright possessed suspiciously large sums in bitcoin digital currency, and one of them even attempted to establish the world’s first bitcoin bank.

Gizmodo, which claims to have been conducting its own month-long research following same tracks, quotes Dr Wright’s blog:

“I will make a solution to problems you have not even thought of and I will do it without YOUR or any state’s permission! I will create things that make your ideas fail as I will not refuse to stop producing. I will not live off or accept welfare and I will not offer you violence. You will have to use violence against me to make me stop however.”

The article provides screenshots of the emails allegedly leaked from Craig, and expands on the fate of his colleague who might have been the co-creator of the digital currency and died back in 2013.

As reported by the Guardian, after the wave of rumours the Australian house of the alleged creator of bitcoin was raided by the police but turned out empty. The owner of the house told the police Dr Wright and his wife decided to move to London a month earlier.

Reddit users heatedly discuss the news, most of them arguing against the allegations that Dr Wright is Satoshi Nakamoto. The tone of the discussion ranges from “Should we rename the blockchain Craig’s List?” to “Pretty Certain Dr Craig Steven Wright is Not Satoshi.” One of the arguments contra comes from the fact that some of Dr Wright’s companies went bankrupt.

According to WikiLeaks official twitter, “Craig S Wright is unlikely to be the principal coder behind Bitcoin.”

Earlier this year the unknown creator of bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto was proposed for Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
