A group of local activists in Keene, New Hampshire, embraces bitcoin. Unfortunately not all the residents of the state share their enthusiasm. This week the group installed a bitcoin booth at a local fair and 18 people downloaded bitcoin wallets.

New Hampshire activists established a little bitcoin embassy at Cheshire fair:

“Last year we installed a grand total of three bitcoin wallets (though we did hand out hundreds of bitcoin flyers). This year, we did it again and installed eighteen wallets, had dozens of great conversations, and shared bitcoin intro flyers with hundreds more fair attendees!”

The activists brought an original bitcoin vending machine with them.

“A couple of people used the machine at the fair, and many others were directed to the BVM at 101 Deals Thrift Store for future purchases.”

Free Keene project is a group of libertarian-minded citizens, who try to embrace the practices of the everyday life free from the state.

“Free Keene’s bloggers are mostly Keene-area, liberty minded activists, visionaries, and media personalities. Some are New Hampshire natives, others have been here for many years, and others moved here as part of the Free State Project.”

The group gained local fame when it started to help local drivers to avoid fines. The members of the group were feeding parking meters with coins when the time was running out. This caused a conflict with parking enforcement officers. After a lengthy dispute, Free Keene members defended their right to pay for the others in court.

The state of New Hampshire is one of the big bitcoin states on the East Coast. This February, eight representatives of the State House proposed a bill that would require the state treasurer to develop a plan for accepting bitcoin payments for taxes and fees.
