The US-based cryptocurrency services provider has promised its customers to add support for Ethereum Classic but only for the withdrawals to ETC addresses not associated with Coinbase.

According to the blоg post, the decision was made after some customers requested the ability to recover ETC from the platform:

“It is important to us that our customers trust Coinbase to safeguard digital currency assets. Therefore Coinbase customers will be credited the full amount of ETC associated with their account.”

It does not mean that Coinbase will support trade or transactions in Ethereum Classic. The company still warns its customers to “avoid sending additional ETC” to any of its services.

Ethereum Classic is the original version of the token in the Ethereum blockchain not subject to the hard fork implemented two weeks ago. In terms of market capitalisation, it currently occupies the fifth place among cryptocurrencies, after bitcoin, Ethereum, Steem and Ripple.
